The society will again this year be supporting St. Baldrick’s Foundation with a team of members who will shave their heads to raise money for childhood cancer research.

If I remember correctly we raised over $9,000 last year. The event we are participating in will be held on March 9th at Napper Tandy’s in Northport and hopefully will be just as successful.
This is just an update for everyone; St. Brigid’s church which the Emerald Society, and more specifically Bob Earley, put a lot of effort into saving has officially reopened. There were several stories in the news recently about this if you are interested including the New York Times and Irish Central. If you have any other news links please sent them to me and I’d be happy to share them.
The date and location of the January meeting have changed. The meeting is now January 25th at East Northport FD. Dinner will be served 7pm with meeting to follow.

The new 25th Anniversary shirts are here, they will be for sale to members at $15 each. Currently we have stock in sizes M – XXXL but there will be an additional cost for the larger sizes. Until I have a chance to get them to our quartermaster they are at my house in Hauppauge. I will be off for the first week of January if anyone would like to meet up to buy one instead of waiting for the next meeting.

Emerald Society member Chief John McKenna was recognized by he Times Beacon Record of Northport as Man of The Year. He was recognized for both his service as a volunteer firefighter and his work with St. Baldrick’s and other organizations. Click here to read the whole article.

The Hauppauge Fire Department Explorers post 660 is having a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday 7/28/12. There are three seatings available. Part of the proceeds will also go to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and the Wounded Warrior Project.

This year’s Shinnecock-Shamrock event will be Saturday, July 14 from 7-11pm. The event features Irish Bands Morning Star & Bangers and Mash along with Suffolk County Volunteers Emerald Society members and the Seneca’s Old Bridge Singers Drum Group. Food and Beverages included. There will also be silent auction & raffles.
